Boards and Commission Opportunities

The Fate City Council encourages all citizens to consider becoming actively involved in City government by serving on a City Board or Commission. 


Applications are being accepted for the following board and commission vacancies:


• Capital Impact Advisory committee – One (1) Ad-hoc member

• Fate Municipal Development District No. 1 – Three (3) members

• Parks and Recreation Advisory Board – Four (4) members

• Planning and Zoning Commission – Four (4) members

• Zoning Board of Adjustment – Four (4) members


Applications may be submitted online at www.CityofFate.com/BoardApplication. Completed applications must be received by the City Secretary’s Office by 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2021. 


Applicant interviews will be recorded and provided to the City Council for consideration of appointment. Appointments will be made by the City Council in open session at the City Council Meeting being held Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at Fate City Hall. Those applicants not appointed will be considered for future assignments as vacancies occur. Applications will remain on file for one year.  


FATE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND MEETING SCHEDULES


Capital Impact Advisory Committee

  • The Capital Impact Advisory Committee is an appointed nine (9) member board. All regular members of the Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) serve on the CIAC, along with two additional ad hoc members. Ad hoc members serve two-year terms. Terms for non-ad-hoc members are concurrent with their P&Z terms. The (CIAC) serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding long-term growth issues. The CIAC advises and assists the Council in adopting land use assumptions reviews the Capital Improvements Plan, and monitors its implementation. The Committee also reviews impact fees that developers pay to cover the costs of this infrastructure. The CIAC meets twice a year. In addition to the biannual meetings, members are required to attend other meetings as needed.

Fate Municipal Development District NO. 1 Board of Directors

  • The Fate Municipal Development District (MDD) Board of Directors is an appointed five (5) member board. It is the mission of the Fate Municipal Development District to aid the City of Fate and interested private or public entities in making the community a better place to live, work and do business. In so doing, the MDD may help develop and finance any permissible project as defined in Chapter 377 of the Texas Local Government Code and that benefits, strengthens, and diversifies the economic base of Fate. The Fate Municipal Development District Board of Directors meets as needed at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

  • The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is an appointed nine (9) member board assigned the task of advising the Fate City Council and making recommendations on all matters pertaining to parks and recreation in the City. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets on the 1st Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Planning and Zoning Commission

  • The Planning and Zoning Commission is an appointed seven (7) member body assigned the task of reviewing various types of development-related applications and providing recommendations on such to the Fate City Council. These applications cover topics such as future land uses planned for the City, Zoning of properties to determine current land uses and development standards, the subdivision of properties, and many more. The Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the 3rd Thursday (and as needed) at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Zoning Board of Adjustment

  • The Zoning Board of Adjustment is an appointed five (5) member board that considers appeals in zoning matters and may recommend granting special exemptions or variances for non-conforming land uses. The Zoning Board of Adjustment meets as needed at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
