Frequently Asked Questions

Fire Department

Q1. Does the City of Fate have a Fire Department?

Yes.

Q2. Is the Fate Fire Department an All-Volunteer Department?

No. Fate Fire Rescue is a combination fire department. Our Fire Chief and Fire Marshal are paid positions.  All other members of the department are trained volunteers.

Q3. Does the city allow outdoor burning?

In some circumstances a burn permit can be obtained for the purpose of burning small amounts of brush and tree trimmings.

Q4. Will the Fire Department refill my fire extinguisher?

No. The fire department does not offer this service.  You will need to contact a local fire extinguisher company in order to have your extinguisher serviced.

Q5. What type of fire extinguisher is best for my home?

Typical residential homes need a 5-10 lbs ABC fire extinguisher.

Q6. Do you have fire station tours or fire department visits to my school, church, etc.?

Yes. We are happy to schedule tours of our fire station for your school or civic group. Our Fire Prevention office will also visit your location to present fire and life safety education programs. For more information or to schedule a visit, contact the Fate Fire Marshal at 972-772-7994.

Q7. Do you provide and install smoke detectors?

We do have a smoke detector program. Eligibility for free detectors is based on financial need. We will gladly visit your home to suggest the best location for your detector. We also install your detector(s) and change batteries as necessary free of charge for the physically impaired, seniors, and other persons needing assistance. Contact Fate Fire Marshal at 972-772-7994.

Q8. My smoke detector is "chirping". What should I do?

Generally, a chirping sound means that the battery in your detector needs to be changed. If you would like assistance with a smoke or carbon monoxide detector, please give us a call at 972-772-7994 during business hours or call the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Department Communications center at 972-204-7001. We'll be glad to help if we can.

Q9. Do you charge for Fire Department services?

No. All fire department services are free of charge to citizens and businesses in our Fire District. These include emergency and non-emergency incident response, smoke detector installation and maintenance, fire safety and code compliance inspections, and fire prevention programs.

Q10. Why do so many fire trucks go on a call?

The number of trucks responding is based on the type of call received. The most common type of call is those involving buildings. The standard response for any structure (building) fire is three engines and a Chief Officer. Structural calls include alarms, fires, odors of gas or smoke, and lightning strikes. Other calls, such as grass/brush/woods fires may require a brush truck, water tanker, and fire engines.
